DC has long been a punk and new wave musical cauldron: The launching pad for acts like: Dave Grohl, Henry Rollins, Fugazi, Minor Threat and Bad Brains. It's where our own Roddy Frantz and the Urban Verbs helped launch the scene with Seth Hurwitz and the original 930 Club. And it's where Long Tail author and Wired editor Chris Anderson got his musical start, with his band Egoslavia (You must read that story here).
Today's WaPo reports that:"For those interested in Washington punk rock of the 1980s, there's no shortage of ways to learn about the scene. ... You could watch the documentary "American Hardcore." Or, you could stand outside the Starbucks at Seventh and E streets NW and wait for a text message. That's the idea behind "Capitol of Punk," an interactive tour of 10 D.C. punk landmarks....n the dozen or so text messages, you'll learn that until 1991, the Starbucks site (picture below) was an all-ages art and music venue called d.c. space."
