I guess I thought Rise had reach, but this one really surprised me. GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee recommends it t
o students at Ouachita Baptist University. The story in the Bapist Press.
"The one cultural norm that transcends all of the generations, all languages is the transmission of our culture through our art forms. It is the one way in which one generation speaks to the next," Huckabee said.
"It makes perfect sense when you think that even in the way that God designed us, we were designed to be creative. After all, if He is the Creator and He has made a creation and we have been created in His image, it would be the logical conclusion that in His image, since He's a creative God, that part of what He has created in us is a creativity that ought to be stimulated and enhanced and somehow not put aside," he added.A former Ouachita trustee, Huckabee recommended that students read a book by Richard Florida, "The Rise of the Creative Class," in which the author predicts that the future economy will be driven not by those who are strong in technology, agriculture or manufacturing but those who are creative.
"The accommodation of the creative class really is the foundation for the future of our nation's economic strength," Huckabee said.

Huckabee is another example of another moron Republican politician looking for any excuse to put a good face on today's collapsing economy. The "creativity" of the American economy through the creation of these new financial products such as CDOs that were given phoney AAA investment grade ratings are the root cause of todays lock up in the credit market and coming depression. The American dollar is on the way to a collapse as well as the housing market. Once the dollar is no longer the world's reserve currency then there will be no further "Creativity" in the financial field that will package American debt and sell it to the rest of the world because no one would want to buy this junk American debt. Without the hard core of High technology, and manufacturing, what will back the dollar?? The hair salon industry? I don't think so. Richard Florida should realize that Huckabee is only recommending his book to justify the loss of American high tech jobs and manufacturing jobs under the Bush administration. Once America's economy collapses then I think people like Huckabee will be moving to a richer country. The collapse is coming very soon perhaps by the end of this year.

Congrats, Richard... Odd place and odd audience for you to reach, but it'd be great if religious conservatives embraced your ideas. They'll start paying more attention to tolerance if they think it leads to economic growth.

I wonder if Huckasbee or his speechwriter actually read Rise? It would be nice to think he's in favor of tolerance of gays and immigrants, but as AR says it's an odd audience. However, we kneejerk liberals do tend to underestimate religious conservatives.
