Aside from pollution and congestion, Streetblog (via Planetizen) points out that car accidents are the number one killer of American teens - 6,000 deaths are year and 300,000 injuries.  They refer to this as "America's deadliest preventable epidemic."  Our new Canadian neighbors are even more perplexed about the carnage from guns, but that's another story entirely.
